
The Cornerstone University Golden Eagles Women’s Soccer team will be heading to the NAIA National Tournament November 14-20, 2007 in Daytona Beach, FL for the first time in the programs history, after winning the Region VIII championship against University of Saint Francis 1-0 in double overtime. Cornerstone is seeded #19 and will play against Houghton University from New York in their first round game on Wednesday, November 14 at 4:30pm. CU has three former West Michigan FIRE Junior players who have made a huge impact already as freshmen this year.
Liz Myers scored the game winning goal in the Regional semi-final against #11 Nationally ranked Indiana Wesleyan in the 5th minute of play which CU held on to win 1-0. Liz has now tallied 6 goals and 2 assists while playing in all 19 games this year, and scoring two game winning goals.
Christina McAllister (pictured above) has started 18 of 19 games at center mid and has been an important catalyst in the Golden Eagles attack with her exceptional vision and passing skills. Christina has 1 goal and 4 assists and could prove to be a determining factor in their tournament run in Florida.
Betsy Witte (pictured above) has made her mark mostly coming off the bench this season, while starting in three games. Betsy has 2 goals and 1 assist, with one game winning goal. Betsy plays in the outside mid position and her skill on the ball under pressure has helped CU continue to win.
