Another versatile player, Kelsey joins the Crusaders from the West Michigan Fire and Forest Hill Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A 5-10 center forward Kelsey is expected to make an immediate impact next season and contribute right away.
Honored with All Conference, All District, and All Region honors in high school, Kelsey has played every position including goalkeeper. She has won state championships and her club team has competed in major tournaments throughout the United States.
Coach Bugariu says “Kesley is a top player it is simple as that. She will make an amazing impact as soon as she gets here. She has all the tools to succeed and we are very happy that she is coming to Belmont Abbey College”
"I spoke to Mrs Lovell and she wanted me to pass this note onto all of the players." Ian McMahon
Hi again.
I had an afterthought about a couple of things WMFJ might be interested to know as it makes its plans, selects tournaments and wonders about what type of impact they have on young soccer players.
Kelsey’s scholarship offer from Belmont Abbey is .........per year. This all resulted initially from the Belmont Abbey coaches watching her play with WMFJ in Memphis at the Germantown tournament. (They had come to watch a team from Texas we played in the first game and ended up noticing our girls instead - Kelsey being one in particular.)
WMFJ and the college showcase tournaments are how Kelsey was identified for this great opportunity. After she was identified, she went down for an "official visit" during a recruiting weekend with several other recruits, and she was one of only three selected as prime candidates from there. However, BAC and Kelsey would have never connected in the first place if it weren’t for Memphis (and Daphne, who helped share our information with the college coachesJ).
Because of the tournaments (ours were Evansville and Memphis), Kelsey (and the other girls, I’m sure) received many calls, contacts and e-mails from colleges around the country, and had many choices of colleges to possibly be a part of programs in should one of those colleges meet their academic, social and athletic needs. But for girls who want to play soccer in college and are searching for just the right program to fit their needs, these college showcase tournaments can be an invaluable tool. (That’s OUR opinion anyway.)
