West Michigan Fire Juniors Announces
W-LEAGUE TEAM TO BECOME PART OF WMFJ PROGRAM
Grand Rapids, Michigan: - February 11, 2005 President, Brock West today announced the addition of a new team to the West Michigan Fire Juniors (WMFJ) program. The WMFJ has secured the rights to the West Michigan Edge W-League (Women's) franchise, with immediate effect. The name of the team will be the West Michigan Firewomen.
The West Michigan Edge team was established in 2004 and played that inaugural season in the W- League.The W-League is recognized as North America's best women's development organization and was recently voted the #2 women's league in the world. The W-League gives the best college players the opportunity to play alongside established international players while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
"We are very excited about the W-League playing in West Michigan where the WMFJ is developing a very good program at all levels. The success of their program and women's soccer in general should help to attract significant support locally" - Said Tammy Crawford, Director of W-League Operations.
The team will play in the Midwest division of the Central Conference of the United Soccer Leagues.
"We are very pleased to announce this addition to the WMFJ organization. I know a W-League team in this area will generate a great deal of interest and support. It fits in well with our overall model of player development and gives local players the opportunity to participate at the highest level" - Said Ian McMahon, Executive Director/ Technical Director WMFJ
The team will be primarily made up of local West Michigan players, with additional top quality college and international players brought in to add experience to the team. The coaching staff will be announced within the next two weeks.
West Michigan Fire Juniors
The West Michigan Fire Juniors was established in 2004 and is the Official Chicago Fire Youth Club of Western Michigan. The WMFJ has teams ranging from U9 to U18 boys and girls within their youth program, from the beginning recreational player/teams that play locally, to the highest level of Academy player/teams that participate nationally and internationally.
