West Michigan Travel Based - u8-u18
FIRE Select Soccer is the Mid-level of team play within the CFJ-Michigan Program and is best suited for those players looking for a step up in player development from recreational. Age groups eligible to participate in Select are u8-u18.
Both experienced and new coaches’ work with our select teams. All coaches will follow a coaching style that emphasizes the Fire Way, a philosophy based on player development and NOT a win at all costs mentality.
All Select Level teams play withint GVSA (Grand Valley Soccer Association) which is a West Michigan based league that consists of teams spreading from Kalamazoo to Rockford, and Muskegon to Lansing. These teams will take part in the Lakeshore SoccerFest Tournament, a Memorial Weekend event hosted by the Chicago Fire Juniors of Michigan. As well, teams might also participate in other local Michigan and Midwest Tournaments (3-4 hours depending upon the level of the team).
All teams will train a minimum of two times per week, with additional options available for players throughout the year.
There are numerous additional training options and opportunities for players some of these include: Sports Performance and Speed Training (injury prevention and Speed, Agility, Quickness training). As well as different WMFJ Technical Skills Camps.
The FIRE offer their select programming in two separate locations: Grandville / Grand Rapids, and along the Lakeshore. Select level players are encouraged to stay in their local area.
At the younger ages particularly, there may be multiple teams within an age group. Players will be evaluated at tryouts and selected for a team based upon their individual skill level, knowledge of the game, and potential development.
Opportunities exist for players to be ‘promoted’ to higher level teams (ie: 2nd team to the 1st team) as well as consideration for the Premier Program.
u8 – u14: Seasons for these Select teams will be Fall and Spring. Teams will play within GVSA (Grand Valley Soccer Association). Some teams may choose to participate in a Winter I or Winter II training program, these decisions are individually based and up to the team coach’s discretion.
u15+ (High School Age): Seasons for these teams will play one season (Spring for Boys, Fall for Girls), but may begin training upon the finish of their HS seasons or during the ‘off’ season. Teams will play in the GVSA Leagues.
