The West Michigan Fire Juniors are dedicated to developing skilled soccer players on the field, but are also interested in educating those players in all aspects of soccer culture across the world. One such horizon expanging opportunity has the FIRE looking to go international by sending a team to the Copa Queretaro 2008 Tournament, held in Queretaro, Mexico.
For the past 12 years, Holland and Queretaro have been International Sister Cities - building a strong social and economic bond. There are numerous points of interest within this relationship. Representatives from Holland and Hope College have visited this ancient historic colony and diplomats from Queretaro have tip toed through the tulips of our town.
Looking to strengthen our relationship between the two cities, and in partnership with the Holland Chamber of Commerce, the West Michigan Fire Juniors have been invited to participate in the Copa Queretaro 2008 being held March 16th - 22nd. The Copa Queretaro follows an international format, very different than our own typical North American style tournaments by playing only one game per day.
Schedule:
- Monday (March 17th) - "Inicio de actividades" (Round One of Games & Inauguration Ceremony)
- Tuesday ( March 18th) - Round Two of Games
- Wednesday ( March 19th) - Round Three of Games
- Thursday (March 20th) - Semi Finals
- Friday (March 21st) - Finals
Players attending the Copa Queretaro will have the unique opportunity to experience a soccer culture very different than our own and it will be a learning experience that will shape and impact them as players for a lifetime. The West Michigan Fire Juniors are looking forward to supporting such an extraordinary event and opportunity for our players to grow and develop outside of the usual club soccer experience. These are the invaluable experiences that set the FIRE apart as a club in West Michigan.
